Construction of radio-controlled Valkyrie-A semi-macro aircraft
July 14, 2007
Valkyrie-A
I liked the Valkyrie-A for several reasons:
- No special material is needed, that is, except for the carbon tubes.
- The fuselage design is a bit unusual today.
- The plane is a semi-macro, and I don't have one yet.
- The wing layout is a duck type.
- The model is designed more for indoors, but it can be flown outdoors as well.
- The pushrod engine is also its special feature.
I started building the plane at the end of the holidays in 2006, otherwise I was idle during the holidays.
The controls are engine, rudders, one duck surface.
Equipped with 2 GWS IQ 110 servos, one built into the fixed section of the rear wing, the other in the front movable duck platform.
Weight: 420g pattern 290g
Battery: 2x750mAh pattern 2x360mAh
motor: AXI 2204/54
Receiver: JETI REX5
GWS 9x47 propeller
span:1450mm
Length: 1035
I have modified some parts of the construction according to my own habit. Some places needed it, but I forgot a few things,
e.g. the end ribs could use a stronger ending, as the ribs bend when the paper is turned off.
The large wing drain strips are attached to the central wing using staple wire.

I finished the plane in the fall. For Christmas I bought a controller, receiver and motor.
Unfortunately there weren't many opportunities to fly it
The first flight was in the winter, but the rudder deflections were too small, so I made an emergency landing. The real flight was on June 4, 2007. The flight was amazing. Valkyrie flies absolutely slow. It can turn basically on the spot, but it loses altitude in excessively steep turns.

Suggestions for improvements after long experience
You really need to glue balsa to the end ribs on the wings, otherwise they will sag when the paper comes off. Glue wedges to all the fuselage rod joints and particularly large wedges where the engine and electronics box are further away.
