• A new version of the application can be uploaded even during the card’s lifetime.
• The same reader and protocol can be used as for Smart Cards -> there is no need to purchase new readers or change the software.
• There is no need to have a separate card for each application; instead, all applications can be loaded onto a single Java Card. This also reduces costs.
• The card can be secured with a PIN and other measures.
• With well-designed systems, the transition to Java Card is simple.
• Although Java Card is more expensive than a “regular” smart card, it offers greater possibilities not only for users but also for developers.
• Support for both use and development is available for many operating systems, including: MS Windows, GNU/Linux, and Solaris.
