Replacing the heatsink on the chipset

On my motherboard the northbridge gets quite hot, its heatsink was about the same temperature as the heatsink on the CPU. So I decided to buy a heatsink so that the chipset would not heat up unnecessarily. I mounted it on the board and switched the PC on. And what happened? Nothing. Had I lost the motherboard?! So I experimented a bit and in the end I took the heatsink off. And I saw that there was almost no thermal paste on it at all, which should have been transferred onto it from the chipset. My father just came home, took a look at it, picked up a ruler, and when we saw it we did not want to believe it, but we already suspected where the problem was. The surface that was supposed to press against the chipset did not resemble a flat plane at all. So I gave the heatsink a proper working over in the workshop and now the PC runs. So I do not understand how something like this can get onto the market. But it is definitely NOT WORTH BUYING THIS if you do not want to finish the job at home yourself! In my opinion it should not happen that this gets onto the market, it should be withdrawn. Otherwise I also do not understand why it is anodised on the underside as well, that only makes the thermal conductivity worse.
Anyway, now the chipset on the board heats up reasonably, I do not even understand how such a tiny heatsink could have been there before.
